SERVICE
As I continue to lean into my passion for mathematics education, my areas of service have natural overlap with my research and scholarship. For example, I am a proud member of the Data Warriors--an interdisciplinary group of high school youth, teachers, researchers, and community members pursuing social justice in their local area through mathematics. As a researcher, the Data Warriors represents my involvement in a long-term, youth participatory action research project. As a teacher, I center students as experts in their local area as well as mathematics, and I simply facilitate their vision for leveraging mathematics as a tool to make their world a better place. Though I consider this an area of service, in many ways, I am the recipient of a service as I learn from the brilliance of the many stakeholders in this collaborative effort.
My other areas of service include my role as a Department Editor for Mathematics Teacher: Learning and Teaching PK-12. In this role I support the department "Teaching is a Journey," and I am grateful to give back to this journal that greatly motivated me when I was a preservice teacher and has continued to help me sharpen my practice as an educator since. In addition to my role as a Department Editor, I serve as a a reviewer of the Journal for Mathematics Teacher Education and Mathematics Teacher: Learning and Teaching PK-12. I also serve as a reviewer for the AERA, AMTE, and PMENA conferences.Â
